Membership Details
Membership
ITEF membership is open to engineers, scientists, technologists, and engineering students of Tamil heritage worldwide. Membership is the engine of the Forum — it funds the programmes, fills the events, supplies the mentors, and shapes the direction the Forum takes.
Categories of membership
- Full Member — qualified engineers and technologists with at least two years of professional experience. Voting rights at the General Body, eligible to hold any office.
- Associate Member — engineers and technologists in early career, or working in adjacent disciplines. Full programme access; no voting rights at the General Body.
- Student Member — engineering students enrolled in a recognised undergraduate or postgraduate programme. Reduced fee; full programme access; access to the mentorship matching service.
- Life Member — Full Members who elect to pay a one-time lifetime fee. All rights of Full Membership in perpetuity.
- Honorary Member — conferred by the Executive Committee on individuals whose contribution to the profession merits recognition. No fee; no voting rights.
What membership includes
- Full access to all chapter events and the biennial global conference.
- Free or discounted entry to technical sessions, workshops, and short courses.
- Listing in the global member directory and access to the directory search.
- Eligibility to apply to and post on the Jobs Board.
- Eligibility to participate in the Tenders Exchange.
- Access to the Mentorship programme — both as a mentee and, with experience, as a mentor.
- Eligibility to volunteer on committees, working groups, and chapter activities.
- Annual electronic subscription to the Forum's journal and quarterly newsletter.
How to apply
Apply through the Apply for Membership page. New applications are reviewed by the Scrutiny Committee, which verifies professional credentials and confirms eligibility. Most applications are processed within two weeks. You will receive a digital membership certificate and login credentials once your application is approved and the membership fee is settled.
Fees, renewals and receipts
Membership runs on an annual cycle. Renewal notices are issued through the member portal and by email thirty days before expiry. Receipts for every payment are available for self-download from the Payments page in the member portal. Members in good standing for ten consecutive years are eligible to convert to Life Membership at a discount.

Member
To be eligible as a Member, an applicant shall possess the requirements and qualifications listed for a ‘Professional member’ but requires no work experience mentioned therein, except 3 years of work experience for Diploma in Engineering
Professional Member
To be eligible as a Professional Member, an applicant shall meet the following requirements and qualification:
should have fully completed the eligible educational qualification from an intuition within the territorial boundaries of the State of Tamilnadu, India.
ii. Shall hold an accredited certification from a body recognized by the Board of Directors, hold a bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, technology, naval architecture or architecture and equivalent degree in Computer Sciences and related faculties, with work experience of three (3) years.
Shall have completed Part A and Part B Examinations conducted by The Institution of Engineers India and shall have obtained the AMIE certificate, with work experience of three (3) years.
An equivalent qualification in the country of origin, as recognized by the respective ITEF Chapters, with work experience of three (3) years.
Student Member
To be eligible as a Student Member, an applicant shall be of Tamil origin / or should study in an intuition within the territorial boundaries of the State of Tamilnadu, enrolled in an accredited college or university, offering a graduate or undergraduate Engineering degree, more fully explained under the eligibility requirements for a ‘Professional member’ and should have completed one year of course
Emeritus Member
Emeritus status will be extended, to members meeting the requirements and qualifications listed for Professional member and should have rendered remarkable service to ITEF or have a substantial entrepreneurial achievement or shall hold a professional position of esteem as recognized by the board of Directors
Honorary Member
Honorary membership may be awarded to persons of eminence who have contributed substantially to the profession, the forum, the Society or to the Tamil language. Nomination of Honorary Members shall be by the Executive Committee with the approval of the Board of Directors.
Notwithstanding anything mentioned herein, the Board of Directors of the ITEF shall be the sole deciding authority regarding acceptance of members and setting the criteria for the same and their decision shall be final. Provided also that, the Board may provide reasonable additional eligibility requirements for enrolment.
